A November to Remember: Wake-up Calls, Puzzle Pieces and Lights

Yesterday I had a huge wake-up call I want to share with you.

Some of you might not understand. Some of you might not like it. But I know that on the other side of it, you will be more empowered, be more fulfilled and be more at peace.

I must confess the last few weeks deeply challenged my compassion, fear, guilt, judgment and ego. Like many of you, a mix of anxiety, fear, confusion, optimism and sadness about the recent U.S. election came up in some form everywhere I went:

  • conversations with friends and family
  • coaching sessions with private clients
  • on my Facebook feed
  • in my email inbox
  • overheard heated conversations

And the list goes on.

I started to feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility to help ease the frenzy.

Because partnering with people to tap into their strengths so they can break through challenges is what I am trained to do.

Because supporting people when life doesn’t make sense is my job.

Because helping people see possibilities and potential where they see insurmountable mountains is what I chose to invest a significant amount of time, money and energy into mastering.

So naturally, my possibilities-focused brain created an avalanche of all the ways I could use my expertise to help the masses: partner with this expert, start that movement, create a new online community, volunteer, pull together a new coaching experience and the swirl of thoughts continued.

I started to feel an overwhelming sense of overwhelm, stress, heaviness and confusion.

And then yesterday happened.

My yoga teacher led a class centered on “I AM,” where we focused on who we are, not who we are trying to be, not who we want to be in the future, not who we are in comparison to the people around us.

It is about connecting to our gifts and talents and our unique way of expressing them. Right here. Right now.

It is about connecting to gifts and talents so we can tap into our greatness, not from a place of “I am better than you” or “I know more than you” but rather “I am shining my light for you” and “I am shining my light with you.”

It is about the compassionate confidence that comes from within and shines out to the rest of the world.

At that moment, I felt myself choke up as the overwhelming heaviness and stress from the last few days was replaced with overwhelming empowerment and wisdom. I realized that everything is not on me because when I help one person it’s like helping hundreds, or even thousands of others.

Like when I encouraged my friend and mother of 3 young girls to approach her breast cancer diagnosis from a place of healing, not fight, and that perspective led her to start a movement that is helping hundreds of others find hope, light and reasons to believe that life truly gets better everyday.

And each of those people touches others in their life, and so the positive ripple effect continues.

So, today I am shining my light for you and with you so that you will be empowered to touch another person’s life with your gift.

There are 7 billion people on the planet and each one of is here for a special purpose. You and I are part of this puzzle called life, and each one of us holds a special puzzle piece no one else has.

I get that understanding your special puzzle piece or having the courage to put it in play isn’t always so easy. That’s why I created Your 8 To Great. It’s a free resource with 8 questions to help you connect to your purpose so you can shine your light for others and with others.

Click here and Your 8 to Great will automatically download to your computer.

The most important part of living your purpose isn’t necessarily what you do or how you do it, it’s how you express your true self in what you do.

Remember: You always have a choice. You don’t have to let the stress of whatever is going on around you weigh you down. You are part of a whole. Choose to shine your light for and with others so that we can all benefit from your special purpose of being here.
